The Date Palm, also known as the Date Palm, is a species native to South-West Asia. It is noted for its ornamental and nutritional value. This palm has a single trunk, often with shoots at its base, which can reach a diameter of up to 20 to 50 cm, and is covered with the remains of old leaves. Its leaves are pinnate, greyish green and spiny, with lengths varying from 1.5 to 5 m and leaflets 10 to 80 cm long. The Date Palm can live for more than a century. It is a dioecious species, with male specimens that produce pollen and female specimens that, after fertilisation, develop bunches of edible fruits known as dates.
